Power(s): She can control water, and ice.
Abilities: She is extremely intelligent (some might even call her a genius), tech savvy, a great swimmer, and she plays a mean game of chess.
Traits: Mercury is intelligent and serious. She takes her job as a protector of Princess Serenity seriously, and makes it a point to do the best she can. However, despite the fact that she is a very talented warrior, and would bravely lay down her life to save one of her friends she finds the mere idea of large social gatherings terrifying.
Habits: Lady Mercury is almost always reading a book and can often be found somewhere among the giant shelves of books in the Moon palace’s library. She bites her lower lip when trying to concentrate on a problem that is particularly challenging, and also has a bad habit of getting lost in her thoughts which can often cause her to stare off into space.
Description: Her fuku consists entirely of blues and white, with a white leotard, dark blue short skirt. A small flap of dark blue fabric outlines the V-neck of her leotard and travels down to the back of her shoulder blades. On the back of her skirt and the front of her chest are two light blue ribbons. A broach the same color blue as her skirt adorns the bow on her chest, and she wears a gold tiara with a gem stone bearing her planetary symbol on her forehead. Finally a pair of knee length, dark blue boots completes the outfit.

When not in her fuku Mercury opts for floor length, modest, Grecian style dresses that usually come in varying shades of blue.
Appearance: Mercury has a round face with a pale, porcelain complexion. She is of a medium height and has a rather small frame with more subtle curves then some of the other inner senshi. Her eyes a light blue are framed by dark eye lashes. However, her most striking feature is probably her exotic, dark blue hair that is cut into short bob.

Strengths:

• Intelligent- A fast learner she has always valued knowledge above everything else, spending countless hours studying everything from war tactics to ancient poetry in the Moon Palace’s library.
  
• Strategic- Mercury is great at predicting her opponent’s next move, and staying one step ahead of them.
  
• Responsible- She has always been keenly aware of her duties and takes them very seriously working late into the evening, and keeping a very tight schedule that she rarely deviates from.
  
• Analytical- She approaches every problem with a critical eye preferring to make her discussions based on cold, hard fact instead of acting on her emotions.
  

Weaknesses:

• Socially awkward- Mercury is far from charismatic and is truly terrified of talking to people she has never met before. She tries to avoid social situations at all cost, but when forced into one she can never manage to say anything right.
  
• Aloof-Due to the fact that her behavior is dictated almost entirely by logic and fact Mercury often comes across as cold and distant. She has trouble connecting with people on emotional levels, and the only people she truly feels comfortable being around are her princess, and three fellow inner senshi.
  
• Critical- She holds herself and those around her to impossibly high standards, and is often too quick to judge people.
  
• Conservative- She has been known to be a bit of a stick in the mud. Though she likes to have fun it often takes quite a bit of nudging by the girls before she will do anything she deems as risky.

• To see Princess Serenity become an intelligent and capable Queen.
  
• To gain the same admiration and respect from her people that her mother had.

Background: It had been a shock to the royalty and citizens of Mercury when the king and queen became pregnant with their first child. The couple had been trying for years to have a baby. However, they had been told countless times by the best doctors in the solar system that it was impossible, and had long given up on the hope that they might someday conceive.

On the day of delivery they were stunned to discover that their child was a beautiful, blue haired, little girl. Both the king and queen had been expecting a baby boy and had come up with a long list of boy names, but not single girl one. It was immediately decided that she should be name Athena after her mother who was beloved by the Mercurian people.

For several years the kingdom lived in a joyous state of celebration. Finally after all this time the king and queen had an heir to the throne. It soon became very clear though that the child wasn’t normal. She spent all of her free time studying, and didn’t seem to enjoy playing with children her own age. Many of the nobles said she behaved more like a mild aged noble woman than a little girl. There were also rumors whispered all over the kingdom that she possessed some sort of strange power over water.

The queen, who had worked so hard to have a child, tried her best to shield Athena from the harsh rumors. Encouraging the young girl in her studies, she was her daughter’s number one fan. Athena’s mother was her best friend, and she only ever felt truly safe and comfortable when with her.

One day however, the queen became very sick. Doctors were called in from all over, but no one could figure out what was wrong with her. Then finally one night several weeks after her mother had fallen ill Athena awoke in the middle of the night to her find her nanny crying silently in the corner. Her mother had died. The kingdom was devastated. Queen Athena had been admired by all of her citizens for her grace, and intelligence. It hit the princess the hardest though. The already studious little girl began drowning herself into her studies as more rumors began to spread about her. Many upset citizens blamed the princess for the death of their beloved queen, saying that the Queen had never been meant to have children and that the child was a curse.

Just a few short years later her father married a noble woman several years younger than him, named Amphitrite. Athena disliked her new mother who cared very little for the citizens of Mercury, and more for the power she could gain from playing the complicated political games of the Mercurian court. However, she didn’t have to deal with her stepmother for long. Soon after her father’s second marriage her strange powers began getting stronger, until finally she was called upon by Queen Serenity to take her place as Sailor Mercury, one of the four inner Senshi and protector of Princess Serenity.

RP Sample: Sitting huddled in a quiet corner of the palace library, surrounded by dusty books Mercury sighed. She had been hunched over a book written in some dead language trying to translate it for hours. It was easy enough to do, but for some reason she couldn’t concentrate. Her mind was filled with thoughts about their princess and her recent nightly adventures. They had only just discovered that Serenity had been going down to earth at night to visit some Terrian prince. How long has this been going on, Mercury couldn't help but wonder.

The feeling of total failure loomed over her. It was their job to protect the princess, and her she had been sneaking off in the middle of the night right under their noses.“How are we going to protect the princess from outside forces, if we can’t even protect her from herself,” Mercury mumbled under her breath as she leaned back in her char.

Rubbing the bridge of her nose she looked around the library. She was the only one around, but that wasn't uncommon. Very few people seemed to enjoy the extravagant room filled with thousands of books as much as she did. The princess often teased her for being such a bookworm.

Looking out the window the blue and green planet that had captured their princess’s heart stared right at her. She had to confess it was beautiful, and as much as she hated to admit it she kind of understood her princess’s infatuation with the barbarian planet. After all, as the Senshi of water she couldn't help but harbor a certain affinity for any planet that contained so much water.

Other: This is my first time on proboards, so forgive me if I act like a total noob XD
Experience: About three years. I’m a little rusty though because I haven’t been a part of any RP’s for about two or three years.
Why do you want to play this character? First of all I absolutely the idea of an rp set during the Silver Millennium. We are told so little about the Silver Millennium that it gives us a lot of directions we can take the story in, and it is such a tragic period in the Senshi’s lives. Second, I also really love Sailor Mercury. She is my favorite of the inner Senshi and I connect with her character on such a personal level. When I was younger and started watching Sailor Moon she was the character I always felt was most like me. She is smart and sort of shy, but she cares deeply about her friends. I mean what is not to love about her?
